When you paint a room in your home, you want the paint job to look great and last. You want the paint to have a smooth and professional finish to it. When most people paint their homes, they paint it with the intention of leaving it that way for your awhile. You want the paint job to look as good as possible. Here are a few secrets that will help ensure that your next paint job looks as smoothed as you imagined it.

Always Sand First

One of the secrets to a flawless looking finish is to properly prepare your walls before you sand it. Fill in any holes, cracks or damage to the wall with caulking and allow the caulking to dry fully. Then, go back over the caulking and sand down everything until the wall is even. To get the job done at a nice pace, use a sanding pole. It makes it easier to reach up and sand all the areas that you want to reach. If you want your paint to look smooth when you are finished, you need to start with a smooth surface.

After you sand, don't forget to clean up. Sand can leave behind a really fine dust. Vacuum and dust your walls to get rid of the dust left behind by sanding. You don't want all that sanding dust to bind with your paint.

Use A Tinted Primer

Once your wall is ready, you should put a primer down before you put down the paint that you really want to use. Don't go for a white primer though. Instead, use a primer that has a little tint and color to it. Using a tinted primer will help cover up any colors that are underneath the primer. Using primer, in general, will help prepare the wall and ensure that you don't have to use too much paint.

Add Paint Extender to Your Paint

When it comes time to paint, you are going to want to add paint extender to your paint. Paint extender is also sometimes referred to as paint conditioner.

Paint extender does two different important things. First, it allows the paint to take longer to drive. It also levels out the paint. These two actions make brush strokes less obvious to the eye and also allow the paint to stay wet long enough so you avoid overlap marks. Overlap marks happen when you apply wet paint right next to dry paint, and can result in an uneven application and varying colors.

If you want your paint job to look professional, be sure to prepare the wall by treating blemishes and sanding it down first. Always use a primer on your wall, and remember that tinted primer hides the previous wall color better than a white-toned primer. Keep in mind that adding paint extender to your paint is a nice way to ensure that your brush strokes are hidden. To learn more, contact a company like Fresh  Home Painting.
